  • Alpha Xi Chapter Sponsors American Red Cross Blood Drive on 9/28/2022

    Alpha Xi Sponsors Blood Drive

    Alpha Xi Chapter is a collaborating sponsor for the upcoming American Red Cross Blood Drive on September 28, 2022 and we need to recruit more donors!  If you live in the Columbia area or willing to travel, we hope you will invite your family, friends, and colleagues to donate.

     Please post the attached flyer on your social media sites!  Many of us have social media page such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linked In, etc.—help us spread the word.  For our student members, please reach out to your peers and encourage them to donate.

  • Alpha Xi Leadership Intern opportunity 2022-2023

    The Alpha Xi Chapter Leadership Intern Program is an exciting way for members to learn more about Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (STTI) and develop the necessary skills and confidence for successful leadership in nursing globally. STTI supports the learning and professional development of our members who strive to improve nursing care worldwide (www.nursingsociety.org).  In response to this mission, the Leadership Succession Committee is inviting active members to apply to the Leadership Intern Program.  

    The Leadership Intern position is an opportunity to grow professionally and personally, to develop and expand leadership skills, and learn more about STTI and the Alpha Xi chapter.  A leadership intern serves in the position for one year, is mentored by a member of the Board, and will participate in networking and honor society activities at the international or regional and chapter levels. 

    Selection criteria include:

    • Evidence of developing leadership, service, scholarship in nursing
    • Availability for a one year term from the starting date
    • Current member of Alpha Xi Chapter

    The selected intern will be expected to:

    • Attend Board meetings and Chapter Induction Ceremonies
    • Participate in special event planning and implementation
    • Be available for future chapter leadership positions
    • Attend (with chapter sponsorship) chapter, regional, or international events

    To apply, submit a current curriculum vitae, letters of recommendation from two current Alpha Xi Chapter members, and the attached application form. 

    Due date is for the current cycle is Wednesday, October 5, 2022 @ 11:59PM.

  • Walk to End Alzheimer's in Columbia, South Carolina

    Alpha Xi Chapter Members are invited to join the Columbia, SC Walk on October 8, 2022 @ 9:00 am.

    Please register as an "Alpha Xi Chapter" organization member.
    • Location: Segra Park, 1640 Freed Street, Columbia, SC 29201.
    • Do I have to register? Yes, we want to know you're walking with us and need every participant to sign a standard waiver through their official registration. There is no registration fee for Walk. However, we ask every participant to make a personal donation and commit to raising funds in the fight against Alzheimer's. Register at link below.
    • Does every participant get a T-shirt? Every registered participant who achieves the fundraising minimum of $100 will receive an official Walk to End Alzheimer's T-shirt via USPS. To receive a shirt in time for Walk day, participants must raise the T-shirt minimum at least four weeks prior to the event.
    • Volunteers Needed! Know anyone who might be interested in helping us on the day of the event? We need volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up, registration, water stops, Promise Garden and so much more. All interested volunteers should visit the volunteer page for more information about event day roles and responsibilities.
    • Promise Garden Flower:  Each registered participant will receive a Promise Garden flower. Please choose the color that best represents your connection to the disease.

  • Walk to End Alzheimer's: Date & Place Near you! Aug-Oct 2022

    Calling all Alpha Xi Chapter Members!

    Walk to End ALZHEIMER's--Together SIGMA nurses can contribute towards research on a disease that affects us all. We have a National Team!

    Nurses can accomplish great things working together! Several chapters of Sigma, the International Honor Society for Nurses, are serving our communities by raising funds for Alzheimer’s research as part of our global initiatives to improve health and promote healthy outcomes.

    JOIN one or more walks in your local area to show your support for research.

    Please identify yourself as a "Alpha Xi Chapter Member". Click on "Start a Team" or "Join a Team" and enter your zip code, choose which locations and dates would suit you best to walk. Name your team 100 yrs of SIGMA Nursing—Phoenix, 100 yrs of SIGMA Nursing--Columbia or 100 yrs of SIGMA Nursing—Sacramento, etc. (Putting 100 yrs in front will make it easier to find the team :)

    Invite friends and family to join you in your local area. Go SIGMA Nurses!

  • South Carolina Palmetto Gold Nurse Recognition and Scholarship Program

    Congratulations to Alpha Xi Chapter's very own, Dr. Veronica Deas, for being honored as a SC Palmetto Gold Recipient!!

    The 20th Annual Palmetto Gold Gala will be held on Friday, September 16, 2022 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, 1101 Lincoln Street, Columbia, SC 29201. The gala reception begins at 6:00 PM with dinner and awards starting at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $70 and not refundable if you do not attend.  Registration closes on September 8, 2022, at midnight.

  • Sigma Leadership Connection Conference

    Alpha Xi Chapter will be represented at the Sigma Leadership Connection Conference!

    Sigma’s biennial chapter leadership training conference—featuring topics such as member recruitment and engagement, program planning, chapter operations and communications, and creating a culture of inclusivity.

    • Karen Worthy (Chapter President) will attend in-person on September 16-18. 2022 in Indianapolis.
    • Sue Haddock (Chapter Treasurer, Finance Committee Chair), Nydia Harter (Chapter Secretary), and Pam Wright (Governance Committee Chair) will attend virtually on September 22-23, 2022.  

    Lessons learned, best practices and updates from the conference will be presented to the Chapter.
